AMY PRICE JOINS FRENCH ART COLONY AS DANCE INSTRUCTOR
Amy C. Price has joined the French Art Colony as dance instructor for the upcoming fall season, and is being enthusiastically welcomed to both the community and the FAC teaching staff. Classes will begin on September 21st, with Registration and Open House scheduled on September 12th, from 10 am until 2 pm at the FAC Dance Studio on Court Street in downtown Gallipolis. Open enrollment will be available at that time.
A graduate cum laude of the University of Georgia, with a BS in Family and Consumer Sciences, Price majored in Child and Family Development, with a focus on Dance Education. Before that, she was in the honors program at Georgia State University in Atlanta.
Most recently she was in Columbia, South Carolina, where she trained students from age 3 through adults in Pre-ballet, Ballet, Tap and Jazz at the South Carolina Christian Dance Theatre. While there, she facilitated pre-ballet classes in two local preschools, choreographed ballet, tap and jazz presentations, and supervised assemblies at nursing homes and concert venues. For five years before going to Columbia, she was an instructor, becoming director of The Studio School of the Arts at Trinity Christian Fellowship in Lawrenceville, Georgia. She also was dance instructor and drama teacher at the Masters Academy there.
Her professional training is most impressive, studying at various schools of dance in Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi. She was introduced to classical training at the age of seven, and began her teaching career in high school.
A class schedule is available at the French Art Colony, with classes on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The fall schedule begins on September 21st, and the spring term in January, 2010. Enrollment for the school year should be completed no later than October 1st.
One of the basic requirements of the FAC Dance Studio, when taking tap, jazz or modern dance, is to be enrolled in a ballet class. Ballet is the basis for dance performance, and provides the student with a stronger technical foundation for other dance genres.
Price and her husband, Clay, who will be the new Director of Choral Music at the University of Rio Grande, relocated from Columbia, South Carolina to Gallipolis earlier this month, along with their dog Tippy.
Ms. Amy, as her students will refer to her, commented, “Clay and I are delighted to become a part of Gallipolis and the Gallia County community. I’m particularly excited to have the opportunity to teach for the French Art Colony, and look forward to a great year.”
