CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
All class placements are made with instructor’s permission and can change throughout the year to meet the individual needs of each student.
Pre-Ballet 3’s, 4’s (45 minutes)
Students explore creative movement and basic gross motor skills.
Learning to take turns and follow instructions are also a large portion of this class
K-5 Ballet (45 minutes)
Ballet basics are introduced including foot positions and terms.
Students continue to fine tune their gross motor skills
Primary I Ballet : (45 minutes)
This level is for all returning K-5 Ballet
Begin introducing basic ballet terminology and technique
Primary I Tap/Jazz (30 minutes each)
This is an introduction to beginning tap steps and rhythms; focus will be placed on the fine motor skills.
Introduction to basics in jazz technique and steps
Primary II Ballet: (45 minutes)
Begin ballet steps using more fine motor skills
Begin to put basic steps into combinations
Continue to develop and add to basic skills and technical ability at the barre and center
Primary II Tap/Jazz (30 minutes each)
Emphasis is on proper execution of beginning terms and combinations; gross motor skills and fine motor skills are explored separately and together
Primary III Ballet: (45 minutes)
Focus on correct body placement at the Barre and center and self awareness where the students learn to correct themselves
Build a broad base of ballet steps at the Barre and in center
Begin refining Ballet technique
Primary III Tap/Jazz (30 minutes each)
Tap Students will continue honing tap skills and will be introduced to varying tempos and rhythms while working on balance. Dancers will learn the four basic Time Steps.
Jazz Students will begin to work on balance and will continue expanding their jazz vocabulary. Dancers will be introduced to the various genres of jazz dance, including lyrical, Broadway and hip hop.
Intermediate I Ballet: (1 ½ hours)
This is a pre-Pointe level class, focusing on building strength and precision to prepare the students for Pointe
Students are required to take two ballet classes a week to secure a strong foundation in technique
Spelling and definitions for ballet terms; Students are required to bring a notebook to class every week and are tested on Ballet terminology
Intermediate I Tap/Jazz (45 minutes each)
Tap Students are required to wear a 1 inch heeled tap shoe. Further work on intermediate level terms with focus on performance speed and rhythm.
Jazz Students will learn basic hip-hop combinations, continue working turns and intermediate level terms
Modern (45 minutes)
Intermediate I and up, students must be enrolled in Intermediate I ballet to register for this class
Dancers will explore Modern Dance elements such as shape, level, space, force, and pattern.
Flexibility and improvisation will be stretched and strengthened
Adult Ballet, Tap, and Ballroom
Adult Classes are offered throughout the year, based on instructor’s schedule, introducing adults to the fundamentals of dance while focusing on exercise and health.
